Action Congress (AC) was formed through the merger of several opposition parties, including the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in September 2006. The party has support from across the country. Its presidential candidate in the April 2007 presidential elections was Atiku Abubakar (Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 -2007), who received the third highest number of votes. The AC contested the results of the 2007 elections and has refused to participate in the Yar'Adua administration.

The National Chairman of the AC is Chief Bisi Akande, former Executive Governor of Osun State, Nigeria.

In Ogun State, the party is under the able leadership of Alhaji Tajudeen Bello as party State Chairman. Otunba Dipo Dina was the party’s Governorship candidate during the last (2007) general elections.
